Her Start in the Mental Wellness Field

Sharnissa's background in mental health began when she was a teenager promoting community wellness in a segregated Oregon. Despite the racism she faced and lack of protection from local authorities, she had an earnest desire to touch the lives of others and continued to use her voice in activism for good. She initially wanted to study human resources, but one casual trip downtown changed her life’s trajectory. She stopped to talk to a houseless person who told her that if she wanted a purposeful career that she needed to pursue a more people-focused field of study, and that influenced her to change her undergraduate focus to social work.

“You never know who is an angel in disguise” - Sharnissa Secrett

The origins of Cemented Rose Therapeutics

After 8 years of working in child welfare services reuniting families separated, her journey came to an end after she decided to pursue mental health full time. Sharnissa knew that social work was her life’s calling so she proceeded to get into contractual work. During this time, she experienced the death of her mother, daughter, and other family trauma. She lost her joy for life, but she knew her mother would want her to continue pushing forward. She gathered her strength, and took the leap into creating her own private practice where she has had the joy of making a difference in the lives of others everyday.
